Updated August 2026. Reading this back six years on, the message we would keep is the headline: keep it simple. The tools around the process have changed — AI-assisted development now lets us explore concepts, generate UI ideas and rough out prototypes far faster than in 2020, and the cloud is simply the default place software runs — but the ingredients of a successful product are unchanged: a clear goal, early involvement of real users, and disciplined iteration towards launch.
What AI has not changed is the value of experience. Faster exploration means more ideas reach the "looks promising" stage, and the differentiator is knowing which ones to take forward and how to engineer them properly — UX, security, testing and maintainability included.
